What is mehndi art?
Mehndi is the traditional art of adorning the body with henna by drawing intricate patterns on the skin with henna paste. Henna (lawsonia inermis) comes from the plant of the same name which usually grows in very dry and arid regions around the globe. The leaves of the henna plant are picked, dried and ground into a fine powder which is then used to make the henna paste.

Is henna the same as a tattoo?
No. Henna is more considered like a form of body art. It's not the same as a tattoo since the technique used to dye the skin is completely different. With henna, the superficial layers of the skin are stained temporaly by the natural pigment found in henna. In the case of a conventional tattoo, the skin is stained permanently with a needle inside deeper layers of the skin.

How long does a henna design last?
A henna design usually will last between 7 and 21 days depending on your skin type and proper maintenance of the design. Generally, the faster you skin exfoliates, the faster the design tends to fade.

  Does it hurt?
No. Since there are no needles involved in the application of the paste, it is completely painless.

Can I get a black henna?
Black henna is not natural henna. Black henna has a chemical dye called PPD which can cause severe health problems. It is now forbidden to use black henna in Canada. So to answer your question... no. Not a good idea unless you're willing to put your health on the line.

How much does it cost to get a henna done?

Prices for designs start at $20.

Can I bring my own design?
Yes. If you have a particular design or pattern you would like to have done with henna, just bring it over.

Is there a difference between mehndi & henna?
No. “Mehndi” is the hindi word for the art of henna and “henna” is the arabic word used to described the plant and also the art.
