What
is mehndi art? |
|
|
Mehndi is the traditional art of adorning the body with henna by drawing
intricate patterns on the skin with henna paste. Henna (lawsonia inermis)
comes from the plant of the same name which usually grows in very dry and
arid regions around the globe. The leaves of the henna plant are picked,
dried and ground into a fine powder which is then used to make the henna
paste. |

Is
henna the same as a tattoo? |
|
|
No.
Henna is more considered like a form of body art. It's not the same as a
tattoo since the technique used to dye the skin is completely different.
With henna, the superficial layers of the skin are stained temporaly by
the natural pigment found in henna. In the case of a conventional tattoo,
the skin is stained permanently with a needle inside deeper layers of the
skin. |
