After journeying through
the fields of publishing (La Mère Entière) and music for a number of years,
Luma R. Brieuc decided to explore other dimensions of her creativity through
the art of mehndi, colour pencil painting and illustration.
This self-taught, Montreal based henna-artist specialises in traditional henna body art, an art form to beautify the body that goes back 8000 years. She has been researching and developing her henna art for several years and continues to further her skills by finding new ways of elaborating intricate patterns and designs. |

I find there's a lot of mystery in the art of mehndi. I think henna serves as a wonderful metaphor for life. For me, expressing my creativity through henna is a way of learning to let go, to surrender, not only to where the pattern wants to go, but to where Life itself wants to take you. And when you do, the design takes a life of its own, just as Life takes a path of its own, unveiling it's exquisite beauty just as it is and not as what we think it should be. Luma R. Brieuc first discovered she had a talent for drawing when she was offered a set of colour makers. Through reading books, keen observation and countless hours of practice, she has developed her own unique style of combining her love of very fine details with vibrant colours something that is particularly obvious in her Solstisse series artwork. She also has developed her drawing skills with the use of colour pencil, a medium which she finds truly inspiring and versatile. The main attraction for this creative artist in working with colour pencils is the effect of optical illusion one can achieve through various techniques. Some of her drawings look as if paint was used while others are so rich with fine details that they look more like a photograph. And yet, they are all done in colour pencil. |
